“I’m living my best life.”

We’re almost at the end of the year, and no phrase has been uttered more in 2018 than “Live Your Best Life.” On Instagram alone, the #liveyourbestlife hashtag has been used on more than 865,000 posts, and that number is still climbing. The phrase can be heard in chart-topping songs this year, like Chance the Rapper and Cardi B on “Best Life”. Searching “Live Your Best Life” on Google brings up more than 6.1 billion results — countless articles and websites committed to helping you do just that.

But have you stopped to wonder, what exactly is living your best life? Are you living your best life right now? If you are, are you truly satisfied? If you’re not, what can you do to achieve your best life?

This is probably a subjective topic because not everyone has the same hopes, ambitions, and dreams. You might think that being rich and having a huge mansion with a fleet of sports cars would show that you are living your best life, but someone else might not share the same values — maybe they would rather have a loving spouse and beautiful children. To them, that is their idea of living their best life. So you see, the point is that “living your best life” does not necessarily mean the same thing to everyone, but it does mean we all share the same end-goal — we just want to be happy with our lives.

With this in mind, here are some general wellness tips we’ve come up with, which we believe will help you on your journey to achieving a happy and fulfilling life.

Take Care Of Your Body

Health is wealth, so the saying goes, and for good reason too. Take a minute to think about how much more difficult life would be if you could not walk, or if you could not see, hear, taste. Life would be a lot more challenging. You might think you’re safe because you were not born with any physical disabilities, but one should never count their proverbial chickens before they have hatched. We’re not jinxing you, we’re just saying it’s better to always be prepared.

Basic body care is made up of two parts — regular exercise, and a healthy diet.

Get Moving

Regular physical exercise is important because it not only improves your health, but it can drastically reduce the risk of developing diseases — type 2 diabetes, heart attacks, and cancer, to name a few. It also helps you to manage your weight better by burning excess fat, and overall you will just feel good — more energetic, better sleep, good moods. Aim for at least 30 minutes a day of moderate-intensity physical activity — go for a jog, a swim, or play some sports. Just keep yourself moving.

Watch What You Eat

Having a healthy diet is essential to good body care. When you make poor diet choices — like choosing unhealthy fast food — you can gain weight that will eventually lead to obesity if gone unchecked. When you’re obese, you are vulnerable to various health complications such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure — all of which can be life-threatening, which is why it is so important to make good diet choices. Avoid eating foods with high sugar and fat content — choose leafy vegetables and lean meat over fried and oily food, and drink water instead of sugary beverages. Trust us, you’ll feel so much better, and your body will thank you for it.

But Don’t Neglect Your Mind

When we say the word “health”, your first thought was probably about physical wellbeing. We don’t blame you, because many others would likely do the same.

However, your mental health should not be disregarded as unimportant. Your mental state influences your bodily functions, and it controls your entire consciousness. When your mental health deteriorates, you become susceptible to mental illnesses — depression, anxiety, personality disorders — and they could affect you adversely.

To ensure consistent mental wellness, there are certain things you should do. Stress — be it from work, school, family, friends — is one of the biggest culprits guilty of harming our mental health. To combat stress, you need to set some time aside for yourself. Go for a run, read a book, pick up a new hobby — just do something you enjoy doing. Make sure to spend time with people you love, and just do things that make you happy.

Life Is What You Make Of It

Life is all about choices, and we ourselves are the only ones who can make these choices. Whether you decide to make good or bad choices, know that the person who will have to live with the results of your choices is yourself. Life is what you make of it, so go out there, do your best in all that you do, and you just might live your best life one day.
